Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BURGER BROS & CO. / ROCHESTER," New York State origin, circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with tooled rim and lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a daisy plant featuring open and closed blossoms accented with shaded details. Slip-trailed "6" above. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Excellent form, good decoration, and seldom-seen Burger family maker's mark. Very nice condition with a 7/8" chip near base on reverse, a few spots of wear to surface, a glazed-over 6" in-the-firing line at base, and some typical wear to Albany slip on inner rim where a lid would rest.
