Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J.A. & C.W. UNDERWOOD / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1865-1867, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with long tail, perched on a tree stump. Essentially as-made condition with some fry to decoration, primarily at base, and an in-the-firing, glazed-over line on interior, not visible on exterior.
