Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Birds-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK STONEWARE CO. / FORT EDWARD, NY," circa 1875, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a pheasant and smaller bird perched on a large tree stump. Pheasant detailed with crest, spotted breast, and heavily-slip-trailed tail, in a turned-head stance. A rare design with highly unusual addition of a smaller bird to the stump. Heavy exfoliation to surface. Large spout chips. Three salt drips to surface.
