Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "L. NORTON & Co. / BENNINGTON," Vermont origin, circa 1823-33, ovoid jar with tall collar, tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, decorated with an abstract cobalt design of a tree or flower resembling a star. 4 1/2" crack from rim on front with filled and painted touch-up to area of decoration. 3 1/2" tall X-shaped crack at base on front, extending 2" onto underside. Horizontal part of crack extends around roughly one-half of jar. 1 1/2" hairline from rim on side of jar.
