Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / STONE-WARE / MANUFACTURER / Manhattan-Wells / NEW-YORK.," circa 1820, ovoid jar with narrow opening and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed cobalt drape design accented with spots. Restored rim chips. 7/8" in-the-firing chip at base. A few faint hairlines emanating from base, typical of stoneware of this region and period, all possibly in-the-firing. These hairlines also extend a very short distance onto underside. Drips of water glass staining to surface. Recessed contact mark at midsection. A few iron or stone pings, including one at base, typical of stoneware of this region and period. 1 1/2" hairline from rim.
