Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, New Jersey or Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with two cobalt "watch spring" motifs below the spout. Handle terminals with brushed cobalt highlights. Some thin cracks near edge on underside. Hairlines at base. One hairline extending 7" up side of jug from base. Some light scattered exfoliation to surface. In-the-firing separations to left side of upper and lower handle terminals. Handle is still very well intact. Recessed spot with contact mark at midsection on front of jug.
