Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "T.H. WILLSON & CO. / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1855, tall, cylindrical jug with rounded spout, decorated with a boldly slip-trailed foliate design with veining to interior of leaves and shading to edge, accented with a wavy line of cobalt emanating from the leaves. Slip-trailed script "3" at shoulder. Maker's mark brushed over with cobalt slip. A good example of early Harrisburg slip-trailing. Professionally restored handle. 3 1/4" raised surface crack and shallow chip to side of jug. Restoration to surface of spout and shoulder on reverse. 1 1/2" flake to bottom edge. Two other base chips. A few tight surface lines in shoulder.
