Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Pennsylvania or Virginia origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a series of stem bearing six tulips, applied over slip-washed clay. Brushed cobalt "2" to right of decoration. Decoration and color is reminiscent of Thomas & John Ducey stoneware of Petersburg, VA, although the form is more typical of Western PA stoneware. Chips to interior of rim. Contact mark at base.
