Scarce One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.M. HICKERSON / STRASBURG / VIRGINIA," circa 1890, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with three brushed cobalt flower blossoms. Shoulder impressed with James Hickerson's unusual and desirable circular maker's mark surrounding a star. Several rim chips. Tight 6 1/4" crack from rim. Large Y-shaped hairline at base, continuing onto underside. Minor chip to bottom edge.
