Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "CORTLAND," Madison Woodruff and Romanzo Smith, Cortland, NY, circa 1867-1869, cylindrical jar with rounded and tooled shoulder and flared rim, decorated with a daisy plant emanating from a scroll-handled urn with footed and cross-hatched interior. Spotted highlights to flower blossoms. A visually-appealing design, highly unusual for this maker. Includes Albany-slip-glazed lid. Stable area of shallow exfoliation to right of decoration. Chips to lid. Small chip to interior of rim, where a lid would rest.
