Very Rare Stoneware Jar with Incised Fish Decoration, Stamped "J. CLARK & CO. / TROY," New York State origin, circa 1826-1828, three-gallon ovoid stoneware jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a fish. Additional cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Scarce, short-lived maker's mark with outstanding figural decoration. Pictured in Donald Blake Webster's Decorated Stoneware Pottery of North America. Cracks and tight lines throughout. Rim chips.
