Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK JR ATHENS NY," mid 19th century, cylindrical jug with thick, rounded spout, the front decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed cobalt design of a tulip plant, accented with heavy cobalt spotting to the blossoms and leaves. In-the-firing iron ping / loss to spout. Additional shallow chip to spout. An iron ping on front and three iron pings on reverse. Recessed contact mark and small applied contact mark / bit of clay to shoulder. Shallow 3/4" chip to base, a base nick, and other wear to base. Some fry to cobalt.
