Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "I.H. WANDS / OLEAN, NY," circa 1850, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with two large slip-trailed leaves and curled vine trail extending from a spiral pattern at the base. Fry to cobalt. Poor restoration to cracks covering entire underside. Area of painted restoration at base which extends into darker areas of bubbled cobalt. Hairlines to right side of jar. 3 3/4" T-shaped crack extending up from base on side of jar. Additional hairlines at base.
