One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1850, cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder and thick spout, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt design of a crested bird with long tail, perched on a stylized branch. Base chip and two tiny base nicks. 2", 1 3/4", and 1/2" hairlines at base. Two nicks to spout. Crack at base of handle. 1 1/2" crack extending from spout through upper handle terminal. 1 1/2" hairline to shoulder on reverse.
