Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S.L. PEWTRESS & CO. / FAIR HAVEN, CONN.," Connecticut origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt design of a crested bird with long tail, perched on a stylized leaf and floral design. Some fry to cobalt. Thin 4 1/2" crack on underside, continuing 4 1/2" up reverse of crock. A 1 3/4" hairline extending up from base on reverse. 1/2" chip on top of rim.
