Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO / WORCESTER, MASS." and Signed by Potter on Underside, cylindrical crock with thick semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with two large leaves flanking a tornado-shaped design. Underside boldly-incised in fine script "Hancock / Hancock / Worcest[er]," the presumed signature of a potter working at the Frank B. Norton Pottery. An interesting example of Norton family stoneware, with insight into the crock's specific maker. 3" surface line under one handle, not visible on interior. Large chip to opposite handle. 3 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. 5" surface line to left of decoration on front, not visible on interior.
