Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "KNOTTS, SWINDLER & CO. / PALATINE / W. VA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and semi-rounded rim, dcorated with a Knotts, Swindler, & Co., advertising, freehand stripes at the shoulder and base, and freehand dashes flanking a "2" at base. 2 3/4" Y-shaped hairline to front. Two other Y-shaped surface lines to side of jar, measuring a 5 3/4" and 3 3/4" each, and a small Y-shaped surface line on reverse. Short, minor line at base. In-the-firing base chip. Jar still rings true.
