One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape and Tassel Decoration, New Jersey origin, circa 1840, squat-shaped ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles. Decorated on one side with a boldly-brushed drape design with tassel-like motif below. This decoration is a later variant of some the earliest stoneware design found on products of New Jersey, Manhattan, NY, and Connecticut. Some flakes to rim on reverse. Shallow chip on top of rim on front. Other minor rim nicks. H 7 1/8".
