Fine Glazed Redware Jar with Lid, New England origin, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with rounded foot, flared rim, and small applied handles with depressed terminals. Surface decorated with splashed manganese over a dark red ground. Includes New England redware lid with manganese decoration and coggled bandling, probably not original to the jar. Jar with rim wear, otherwise excellent condition. Lid with two edge chips and two tiny nicks to flange on its underside. H (of jar excluding lid) 8 3/4".
