Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Dated 1840, attributed to Smith & Day, Norwalk, CT, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a stylized slip-trailed floral motif above the date "1840" on the front. Shoulder additionally decorated with a slip-trailed drape design. Decoration and date are consistent with the work of Smith & Day of Norwalk, CT. Excellent condition with a short faint line at base on reverse, and a few minor chips on interior of rim.
