Scarce Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "HAMILTON / Greensboro, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled midsection, rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with elaborate freehand vining, cobalt stripes, and the number "6" at base surrounded by vining and vertical wavy stripes. Impressed with Hamilton maker's mark on reverse. Crude restoration to one handle. 4" tight x-shaped line under one handle. 4" crudely-restored base chip. Other minor base chips. Tight 4" and 3 3/4" Y-shaped lines to front. Some spots of staining to reverse. H 17".
