Scarce Braddocksfield, PA Stoneware Advertising Jar, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising "G.A. SMITH. / BRADDOCKSFIELD, PA." Braddocksfield, or "Braddock’s Field" was the name of the area in which British General Edward Braddock was killed during the French and Indian War--now called simply Braddock, and part of the city of Pittsburgh. Tight 3" line extending from base and onto bottom 1 1/2", along with a tight 2 1/2" line extending from the side of first line. A few tiny rim nicks. H 8 1/2".
