Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, New England origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed cobalt design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Impressed "4" below rim flanked by slip-trailed swags. Essentially as-made condition. Heavy salt glaze to left side. Glazed-over handle chip. Glazed-over separation at edge on underside, continuing onto base. H 10 3/4".
