Scarce Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J. REMMEY. / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.," circa 1810, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and short applied handle, decorated with cobalt highlights across the maker's mark of Manhattan potter, John Remmey III. Unusually-large circular cobalt brushwork around each end of the handle. Hairlines around both ends of the handle, which appear to have occurred during the firing. Heavy chipping to base. Wear to surface. H 14 1/4".
