Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Fish Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with rounded spout and applied handle, decorated with a finely-brushed fish design with heavily-scaled body and boldly-brushed tail. Desirable design with excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from and Maine collection assembled during the 1980s. Excellent condition with a recessed contact mark on reverse, a small chip on interior of spout, and two chips at edge on underside, all of which appear to have occurred in-the-making. H 11 3/4".
