Rare and Fine Sgraffito Redware Puzzle Jug, Dated 1887, English origin, ovoid form with perforated collar and rounded rim with tubular pouring spout, the lead-glazed surface decorated with yellow slip accented with copper daubs. Sgraffito-decorated with elaborate floral and foliate design, along with the date "August 1887" within a border. Body incised with the poem "Fill me up with liquor sweet / For what is good when friends do meet / Merry meet & merry part I wish you well with all my heart". Incised "Rogers" near base. Underside incised "Rogers Bonyaff". Wear to spout and collar. Some small glaze flakes to surface. H 6 1/2".
