Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "A. CONRAD. / NEW GENEVA / Pottery / NEW GENEVA. PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and lug handles, decorated with stenciled stars and roses and a cobalt stripe below the rim. Provenance: From a thirty-five year Western PA collection. In-the-making vertical groove in clay on front, made while the clay was still wet. Missing one handle. Wire around rim. 8 1/4" spidering crack on reverse with small reglued wedge. 6" hairline from rim on reverse with small chip missing from rim. Wear to surface on reverse. H 15 3/4".
