Unique Redware Jar, Inscribed "Lima" in Slip on Interior, possibly West Bloomfield, NY, circa 1840, ovoid jar with ribbed lug handles and rounded rim, the interior with cream-colored glaze and overlying large manganese inscription "Lima," which refers to a town in Livingston County, NY. No potteries are known to have operation in the town of Lima, so it is likely that this jar was made in West Bloomfield, Ontario County NY, which lies immediately east of Lima. Very rare inscription. Fine-grained exfoliation to exterior. 3 3/4" hairline from rim. Scratches to interior. H 12 1/4".
