Four-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "M. WOODRUFF & CO / CORTLAND," New York State origin, circa 1867-1869, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed cobalt design of two large flowers extending from a corkscrewing stem. Provenance: Lynn White Collection, Readfield, ME. Flaking to underside. Small area of flaking on reverse below rim. 4" crack from rim on front. 8 1/2" crack from rim on reverse, extending from a 2" restored chip. Some light areas of discoloration to surface. H 12".
