Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "SMITH & DAY, / MANUFACTURERS, / NORWALK, CON.," circa 1840, rotund jar with flaring rim and applied lug handles, decorated with opposing cobalt swags on the front and back. Small rim chips. Minor nick and small chip to handle. 2" in-the-firing flaw at base. 5/8" shallow flake near base. Traces of gold paint to surface. H 11".
