Scarce One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock, Stamped "J.H. SONNER / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1890, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder and thin rim, decorated with four inverted cobalt swags around the shoulder. Impressed with the difficult-to-find mark of John Henry Sonner, the son of potter, Samuel Harrison Sonner. Provenance: From a thirty-year Virginia collection. Cracks near base extending onto underside. Some tiny rim nicks. H 9".
