Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and back with brushed cobalt swags. Cobalt scalloped line design under each handle. Lid decorated with cobalt swags and cobalt brushed around knob. 1" base chip. Scattered exfoliation to surface, chip to one handle, 2 1/2" line extending up from base, 2 1/4" line extending down from rim. Lid with 2 1/2" and 1 1/4" flakes off edge on underside, two knob chips, and a 3/4" piece reglued on knob. H 5 1/4" ; Diameter 8".
