Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "P. HERRMANN," Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, ovoid-bodied pitcher with tooled rim and applied strap handle, decorated with a large brushed cobalt flower extending from a groups of leaves. Sides of pitcher decorated with brushed cobalt swags. Collar decorated with brushed cobalt swags on each side and brushwork flanking the spout. Impressed lightly with Peter Herrmann maker's mark below spout. Excellent condition. Spout chip. Rare size for this form. A few minor chips to molding below collar. Dry contact mark on right side of pitcher along with a minor 1/2" bit of kiln furniture adhered to surface. H 11 3/4".
