Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Manganese Decoration, Stamped "P. HERRMANN," Baltimore, MD, circa 1875, straight-sided crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated below the rim with a series of brushed manganese dashes, and along the shoulder with a brushed manganese floral design. This crock is the only example of Herrmann stoneware we have seen with manganese decoration. Wide Y-shaped crack extending from underside vertically up one side of crock and curving under handle. Rim chip and two small handle chips. H 13 1/2".
