Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Large Cobalt Rooster Scene, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, ovoid jar with handles, decorated with a large, slip-trailed rooster with comb, turned head, and prominent tail. Rooster is depicted standing at the center of a scene with two fences, shrubs, and a pine tree. Excellent color, attractive form, and highly desirable rooster decoration. Two large and one smaller rim chip. 1 1/2" line from rim on reverse. Faint spider lines on reverse. 1 1/4" x 2" flaked spot on reverse at base. Small handle chip. H 13".
