Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Man-in-the-Moon Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1870, decorated with a long-nosed face profile girded by a crescent-shaped wreath of leaves. Cobalt brushed at the ends of each handle and highlighting maker"s mark. A highly desirable Central PA design. Scarce form for this decoration. 6" line from rim on front. Another 6" line from rim on reverse. Rim chips. Height 8 3/4" ; Diameter 11 3/4".
