Rare Manganese-Decorated Redware Jar with Coggled Motifs and Rope Handles, attribute to William Jackson, Saugus, Essex County, MA, circa 1811, ovoid jar with squared rim, twisted rope handles, and coggled foliate decoration around rim, the lead-glazed surface decorated with streaked manganese over a mottled orange ground. The jar's form and glaze are related to another jar, stamped "Jackson," attributed to Saugus, Massachusetts potter, William Jackson, circa 1811, sold in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s August 6, 2021 auction, lot 100. Heavy flaking throughout body of jar. Wear to rim, handles, and inner rim for lid. A shallow base chip. H 9".
