Two New England Stoneware Jugs, first half 19th century, an ovoid, Albany-slip-coated jug with overlying salt glaze, stamped "W. STATES," Stonington, CT origin, circa 1811-1823; paired with an ovoid, salt-glazed jug, stamped "CHARLESTOWN," Barnabas Edmands, Charlestown, MA, circa 1825. Smaller jug with drilled hole in underside, heavy chipping to base, and surface residue. Larger jug with small base chips, a minor spout chip, mottling to clay, and some minor in-the-firing surface flaws including a slightly recessed area to reverse. H (of smaller) 10 1/4".
