Unusual Manganese-Decorated Redware Jar with Lid, probably NC origin, 19th century, ovoid jar with coved shoulder, tall collar, and narrow mouth, decorated with diagonal coggled dash motifs around the upper half. Lead-glazed surface features splashed manganese against an olive ground. Jar appears to be somewhat overfired to a stoneware body. Includes original lead-glazed redware lid with coggled dash decoration. Provenance: Carole Wahler Collection. Jar with shallow chipping and wear around rim, surface wear to body of jar, and a small glaze flake at base. Lid with heavy chipping around edge and loss to finial. H (including lid) 8".
