Rare Manganese-Decorated Redware Jug, probably TN origin, possibly Benjamin Wine, second or third quarter 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and semi-rounded spout, the surface brush-decorated throughout with manganese slashes under a heavy lead glaze with as-made omissions in glaze application. In her notes, Wahler mentions that the jug is "possibly Benjamin Wine," referencing two related pieces, a jar and a jug, that descended in a Kingsport, Tennessee family. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Provenance: Carole Wahler Collection. Very nice condition with light wear around midsection. H 7 1/4".
