Rare Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Presentation Vase with Applied Floral Decoration, Inscribed "Warren Johnston / From Doc Bailiff / 1929," Evans Pottery, Dexter, MO, 1929, ovoid vase with flaring base, narrow mouth, and textured, bark-like surface, featuring two diagonal banners flanked by applied flowers, incised "Warren Johnston" and "From Doc Bailiff," perhaps referring to the William Bailiff who is listed in the 1930 federal census as an agent for Sinclair Oil, living in Dexter. An additional applied rose-and-twig motif at base is incised with the date, "1929." Surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip glaze. Among the most outstanding examples of Evans Pottery to come to auction in recent years. A firing crack to underside, not visible on interior. A loss and chip to floral at base. Minor chips to other flowers. H 14 1/2".
