Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Lion Doorstop, Signed "E.F. Lenhart, Beatrice, Neb," Nebraska origin, late 19th century, molded figure of a reclining lion on rectangular base, the figure with incised details to face, mane, and paws, the head bordered by unusual impressed circles. Base with incised details mimicking a series of logs. Incised with large "E.F. LENHART / Beatrice, Neb." signature on underside. Exterior surface and underside coated in a heavy salt glaze. Desirable form. Relatively few signed examples of Nebraska stoneware are known. Loss to one corner of base. Other minor to small base chips. An in-the-firing fissure or incised line to mane. An in-the-firing fissure to underside. L 11 1/4".
