Rare Rockingham-Glazed Jar with Elaborate Incised Inscription, Signed and Dated "Leetonia Pottery / Nov 25- 77," Leetonia, OH origin, 1877, ovoid jar with footed base and tooled, semi-rounded rim, the surface covered in an amber-colored Rockingham glaze over a yellowish ground. Underside incised with the extensive inscription, "Leetonia Pottery / Made expressly for / Becca Schwartzer / Leetonia / Ohio / Nov 25 - 77 / in care of SHS." Excellent condition with some in-the-firing surface fissures to foot, not visible on interior. H 7 1/2".
