Two Pieces of Stoneware with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, third quarter 19th century, a three-gallon jar with parrot on branch decoration, stamped "S.L PEWTRESS & CO. / FAIR HAVEN, CONN." paired with a two-gallon jug with slip-trailed design of a crested bird on stylized branch, stamped "J. & E. NORTON, BENNINGTON VT." Jar with a Y-shaped crack on underside, extending in a curving fashion several inches up front, painted on underside and painted near base on front. A thin crack to proper left side of jar and flaking below. Additional painted restoration around body of jar. A minor chip to proper right handle. A small rim chip. Staining to surface. Jug with crudely restored handle, two spout chips, some additional paint splatter to surface, a thin 3 1/2" crack from rim on front, and a small in-the-firing base chip. H (of jar) 12 3/8".
