Rockingham-Glazed Pottery Spittoon, Stamped "AMERICAN POTTERY CO. / JERSEY CITY, N.J.," circa 1840, molded spittoon with scalloped body, oval opening at shoulder, and recessed fluted top with circular opening, the surface covered in a mottled brown glaze over cream-colored ground. Impressed with circular American Pottery Company maker's mark on underside. Very nice condition. A few small chips to oval opening at shoulder and a few small chips to top edge of spittoon. Diam. (at widest) 9 1/2" ; H 4 3/4".
