Exceptional Graduated Set of Alkaline-Glazed Lidded Stoneware Jars with Grapes Motifs, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA origin, circa 1970s-1980s, each of ovoid form with flared rims, decorated on the front and reverse with hand-modeled and applied designs of a grape cluster flanked by leaves, each overlain with dramatic looping stems and vines. Surface of each covered in a green alkaline glaze. The use of different colors of the clay for the jar, grapes, and leaves, creates different shades of green to the surface, ranging from olive, to yellowish-green, to whitish-green. All include original alkaline-glazed lids. Among Meaders's finest grapes-decorated stoneware sets known. Provenance: Frank W. White Collection. Family records indicate White acquired all three jars on April 29, 2000, for the sum of $10,000, a possible record price for such a set. Each in excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (of tallest, including lid) 10".
