Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Beaver, PA origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar with semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with an array of swags covering a large portion of the jar's front, applied over a slip-coated surface. Very large circular cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Essentially as-made condition with a recessed spot near midsection on front and some surface wear. H 15 1/2".
