Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Rooster Decoration, Midwestern origin, probably OH, third quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with a folky design of a rooster with oversized, fanned tail, perched on a flowering stem. Freehand "4" above. Staining throughout. Otherwise excellent condition. H 12 1/2".
