Very Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Flask, New England origin, possibly Charlestown, MA, 18th century, swell-bodied flask with footed base, tooled shoulder, and short, semi-rounded spout, decorated on two flattened sides with wavy diagonal and straight horizontal trails of yellow slip, applied under a heavy lead glaze. Appealing color to the glazed surface features mottled hues of red, orange, and olive, with orange spotting. Relatively few redware pieces of this age and origin have survived above ground. Two in-the-firing pings to one rounded side. Spout wear. A few shallow base chips. Minor wear to slip. A small glaze flake near base on one flattened side. A few small in-the-firing contact marks.
