Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Incised Decoration, Catawba Valley, NC origin, circa 1850-1880, slender, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and narrow opening, decorated with dramatic incised straight and wavy line decoration to the rim and upper body as well as heavy tooling to the base. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with two minor, in-the-firing fissures to underside, not visible on interior, a minor base chip, and a minor in-the-firing ping to interior of rim. H 12".
